Aimee Mann, “Save Me (Live)”
“I’d like to think of it as the song that lost an Oscar to Phil Collins and his cartoon monkey love song.”
Evelyn Evelyn, “Have You Seen My Sister, Evelyn?”
Is my floozy sister with the doctor? Or the drummer?
Or the dentist? Or the handyman?
Did that ho-bag quit her job and run off with that dickhead Mike to
India? Guantanamo?
Or Panama? Or Disneyland?
Is she studyin’ Kabala? Did she win a million dollars?
Or is she dead in a ditch somewhere?
Architecture in Helsinki, “Do the Whirlwind”
Directed by Paul Robertson.
Fatal Bazooka featuring Yelle, “Parle a ma main”
So apparently when I was a child of seven or eight or nine, I would tell my parents, “Talk to the hand,” whenever I couldn’t argue my way out of a dilemma. Here is the French way of saying that phrase.
Nicki Minaj, “I Love You”
“Shorty, I’m only tellin you this once, you the illest / And for your love, I’mma die hard like Bruce Willis”
Oh.my.word.
Here’s a thing that David Byrne and Fatboy Slim are working on with help from Martha Wainwright, Roísín Murphy, Sia, Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper, Florence + the Machine, Santigold, and some other people I don’t remember. It’s somehow related to melodrama around the former first lady of the Phillipines. If you can’t see this from your dashboards, try the front door.
Nicki Minaj vs. Beyoncé, “Sweet Dreams”
“You like Balloon Boy / Mama, you was never there”
Lily Allen performs “The Fear” at the Brit Awards 2010.
Jedward’s Vanilla Ice-Assisted Pop Breakthrough! I know that sometimes I tend to come off a “music snob” (“Um really? Since when?”-Everyone) but sometimes a public service announcement is necessary to tell people that while some aging broad with a currency symbol plopped in the middle of her name banging on about booze is nice, there is something even better out there. Sadly, this particular song’s not it, but it’s a fantastic way to kill time until that better thing comes along.
Breakfast, then going to see Ellen von Unwerth’s Fräulein exhibition today with Niina.
Marina & the Diamonds, “Hollywood (Orchestral Version)”
Dragonette, “Pick Up the Phone”
I saw these dudes perform at Santos Party House a while back. One of the best live shows I’ve been to, possibly. Also, Martina, I want your hair. Tips?
